Project Synopsis
Bloompark Consulting provided project and contract management services for the refurbishment of Taronga Zoo’s heritage-significant 2,000m2 chimpanzee exhibit.
The project was the world’s first open-paddock chimpanzee enclosure. Due to its iconic and unique nature, Bloompark managed design consultants and zoo experts from the United States, Germany and interstate Australia. To ensure zoo operations and the welfare of the animals were not compromised, extensive client stakeholder management and collaboration was critical.
Bloompark managed the design development of innovative solutions for climbing structures, interactive viewing platforms, and geometrical mesh and perforated panel containment. This included the relocation and temporary housing of the chimpanzee group during construction. The project received the 2011 MBA Excellence in Construction Award for Public Buildings.
