Project Synopsis

Bloompark Consulting where engaged in 2011 for the project management of authority approvals, finalisation of design development into documentation, tendering of works, and Executive Steering Committee approval to proceed. The Stage 4 Infrastructure Project was integral as enabling works for the West Dome mine expansion circa $350m. Material handling and resource management and control was critical in the successful delivery of these projects. The site is completely isolated with weather dependant access only, with limited air access. The mine site was fully operational during the works, with operations and production taking precedents over construction activities on site.

The Stage 4 Infrastructure Project included a 2 bay Heavy Duty Vehicle Workshop and 50tonne crane, Drill Bit Sharping facility, 4 bay Light Vehicle workshop, Oily Water Separators, recycled water dams and 5,00m2 evaporation pond and muck out bays, wash down bays and sumps, Fuel Farm expansion, HV/LV electrical infrastructure works including replacement of Kiosk sub stations. Bloompark implemented an “out of state” procurement process for the construction, due to the lack of valuable resources and material in the Western Australian market (The works where completed at the height of the Resource Boom).  Bloompark successfully managed this project from Sydney, consultants based in QLD/Vic/WA, Main Contractor based in SA and delivered via a D and C contract at Australis most isolated mine site Telfer WA.

This process was the first to be used at the Telfer mine site and was fully endorsed by Newcrest procurement and executive teams. Bloompark also brought a much higher level of project management delivery methodology to the project, enabling transparent reporting and project cost and program tracking to the client. Newcrest increased Bloompark’s scope of works on several occasions, and culminated in the successful completion of all works by Bloompark Consulting on time and budget.
